World of warcraft fps

list of specs:
CPU: amd fx 8320 OC'd to 4.1GHz(with zalman CNPS10XOptima cooler, it's pretty much the same as the hyper 212 evo)
MOBO: asus m5a97 r2.0
RAM: 2x4 1600MHz ddr3 G.Skill ripjaws
MSI gtx 970 OC'd to 1501Mhz
PSU: corsair cx750m

I'm running world of warcraft on 1080p.
I'm only getting 40 to 70 fps on ultra settings, 35 in raids. which is about the same performance as my gtx 760.
I see other people saying they have more fps. 90ish in raiding enviroments on ultra settings.
is it because of WoW not "liking" AMD, or are this normal numbers seeing as this is especially a CPU intensive game.

I was expecting a gain in fps by switching to a gtx 970. battlefield 4 runs absolutely fine, I get between 90 and 150 fps when I uncap my fps. which is alot more than my gtx 760.
so the only thing I can think off is that WoW isnt optimized for AMD CPU's. which I've seen people compain about.

I cant seem to find benchmarks with this combo.

any ideas?

Hey,

it's the WoW engine, it's not your hardware. I saw more FPS increase from changing from AMD Phenom II 955 BE to Intel i5 4670K than I saw from upgrading my card from AMD Radeon HD 6950 to GTX 770.

The game is really more CPU dependent than it is GPU dependent, having said that even if you upgraded to some $500 CPU you won't see more than 5-6 FPS increase over the one you have now if that. With my setup (which you can see on my profile) I get exactly the same FPS like yours - in raids it drops to 35 or so.

hmmm I see, so my guess was right... I hope they will up their game a bit with the new expansion then though...

oh right, completely forgot about this >.<
I know, but it's not realy about having the boost. I was just wondering if my gtx 970 was underperforming in any way. but the benchmarks seem to be good, it runs everything else like it should. so it's most proably, like mouldread said, the WoW engine.
it did get a bit better with patch 6.0.2 though!

so I got my hands on an i7 4790k!(completely free, i'm a lucky man) and I have to say my minimum fps went up by quite a bit. I dont expereince the drops anymore(not as low at least). lets say I had an increase of about 10fps by switching those CPU's and motherboard.
