I have a Actiontec v1000-h that Telus gave me. I am wanting to upgrade it to get better signal strength etc. The thing that I am confused about is can I just unplug the Telus one and put the new one in its place and reconfigure it? (I haven't picked a new router out yet just wanting to get an idea). Hope this made sense if it didn't I will try and clarify it.

I am wanting to order a Wireless network card for my main pc which is used for gaming etc. I want to move it to another room but I have nowhere for a Ethernet cord to go.

This is the card- http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B007GMPZ0A/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3DWYIK6Y9EEQB

Maybe I don't really need to upgrade the router if the one I have is fine, I just don't want to get a card then have bad connection in the different room.

I get the impression you are using a wired connection now. If that is the case you will probably be disappointed with the wireless connection speed wise. I see from the router specs it has 300Mbps max and if you are running on a wired connection your are probably getting three times that or more now. If the room you want to move to has a phone jack it is more than likely possible to run an Ethernet cable into the same box as the phone jack. Worst case, you could run it along the bottom of the baseboard. I would try to go one of those routes.

If you go with the wireless it appears that the card and router will work together OK but wireless connections are made via radio and radio signal propagation can be finicky depending on the...

If you go with the wireless it appears that the card and router will work together OK but wireless connections are made via radio and radio signal propagation can be finicky depending on the construction materials in the walls between the router and the computer. More than likely it will work fine. If possible position the computer in the new room so there is as little matter between the card antennas and the router antennas and that includes your body, books on shelves, etc.

I see the router specs state indoor range as 91M (300Ft) so you should be fine power wise with the Actiontec you already have.
