When I burn and finalize .wma files on CDs, they play on computers and in the car, but won't play on CD players. This is new with Windows 8. What's wrong?

CD players need files to be in the .wav format, not mp3 or wma.

"Legacy" music CDs do not contain files (.wma, .mp3, even .wav) but tracks, so you must use special settings in order to create music CDs.

If you're using Windows Media Player to make your CDs, choose "Music CD" instead of "Data CD" in buring options. WMP will take care of converting your .wma's and burning them as music tracks.

Thank you for the info. I'll see what I can do about converting files. More research to do, but maybe the Roxio software I bought can help.

Thanks for taking the time to answer. I didn't have any trouble burning music CDs with Windows 7, but Windows 8 isn't as simple. I'll see what I can do with the file format.

You can burn MP3 to cd but whatever you want it to play on HAS to support MP3.

Roxio will work and so will Windows Media Player or iTunes. From a PC the conversion is to a .wav file type on an audio CD, which itself then will have an uncompressed PCM file as the song(s).

HERE is a tutorial from Audacity on making audio CDs with either Windows Media Player or iTunes.
