Stuck in Metro apps screen - Win-key doesn't toggle

Sometimes when I toggle from the classic desktop to the metro desktop using the Win key there is no way for me to get back to the classic desktop - basically it gets stuck (nothing wrong with my keyboard - I've duplicated this using two keyboards). Whenever this happens, I can see the little Windows start-button icon depressed (it is perpetually pressed down). When this happens the only way I can see the classic desktop is by pressing ALT+Tab (which will show the classic desktop for as long as I hold the ALT+Tab keys down for, then when I let go will revert back to metro).

Basically when this happens, I have to reboot my computer so I can us the classic desktop.

Anyone experience anything similar, and if so, how I might remedy this?

don't you have the desktop tile on the start screen too?

I don't have a tile there but by pressing either ESC or Win-key I am usually able to toggle back. It's as if something in Windows 8 is causing it to perpetually press the Windows/start key in the bottom left corner (it is even shade purple as if it is being clicked down on)

I ran it, and there was no errors there. I'm perplexed what this could be.
