I have an SSD and a Storage drive, with windows 7 installed on the SSD. I installed Linux/Ubuntu for the first time and in the process my storage drive basically disappeared. it no longer shows up as a drive when I click ''computer'' in windows nor does it show up in Ubuntu (though I'm extremely new to the os obviously). in disk management it shows up as unallocated space aside from 2 partitions that were made to store Linux on.

I'm kind of panicking right now and I just want to know if there's a way I can reverse this and if not is there a way I can recover the data that was on the drive.

Recuva can get some things back - but if files were overwritten - then are gone....unless you go to a forensic scientist who can recover data.

I'm not actually sure if files were overwritten or not. it's impossible to tell because I can't access it like a normal disk anymore

Recuva is a free download - give it a try. The worst thing it will tell you is that it can't recover anything.

I did actually try it right away but the drive is no longer partitioned and recuva wasn't able to recognize it as a drive. I've used a couple other tools designed to recover the partition of a drive with no luck.

basically what I need to do is find a way to recover files from unallocated space or find a way to restore the partition.

OK! Right now, you need two steps to fix everything well:
1). Download drive data recovery software to scan this drive and restore your important drive data back easily.
2). Open Disk Management to format this drive and also assign a letter to it here.
And then, freely use your drive.
Next time, always save needed drive data on different drives or locations.

You can try Partition Find and Mount or Partition Wizard MiniTool to recover lost partitions in order to possibly recovery your data.
