Laptop requires restart to recognize microphone.

Every day I take my laptop to school, just my laptop no peripherals, and sometimes when I get home and boot up, everything works fine except my microphone on my turtlebeach X12, and only sometimes. A reset always fixes it, but it's inconvenient to do this. I've messed with power settings, re-installed drivers, etc. It's only the microphone, the sound in the headset works fine.

Any suggestions?

I'm replying as I want to see if this gets answered.

I have a laptop that does similar except it is the sound out that quits on me sometimes. I've watched one video no problem, go to start a second, and get no sound. I've never been able to find a fix for it, mostly because a reboot fixes it for me andI haven't dug into it too deeply.
