Just let me start by saying I have searched this and found a lot of topics. Most of those were old topics. And I can put the parts together but knowing a lot about them I don't.

I have looked on Newegg and pcpartslist?

My son came to me wanting an Alienware and I looked at the X51 but then I asked some friends and they said they built better pcs for less.

So I am just wondering what you guys would put together for $800 if you wanted to play games, do some editing, steam with friends, the basic stuff.

The X51 is a little over $900 with tax. But I can probably get it for around $800 with a discount. Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated. This will be a Christmas present and I would like to get all the parts and get it put together by then. If in fact building my own would be better.

Thanks,

Taisean

Alienwares, in my opinion, are super overpriced. If you want a good pc from them, you're going to have to pay a lot more than you should.

Overpriced and cheap Dell garbage. You are better off building your own computer.

I know building would be better. What would you build for the $800 - $900 it costs to buy one?

Do you want the monitor/OS in the price? or just the tower?
