Why do 2 cards in sli run at 8x8x and not 16x8x? there are still enough lanes left to do that.

That's the MoBo makers fault.

You aren't going to see any performance difference between the 2 setups so i can't really see the problem.

It's just the way the motherboard manufacture set it up. There are motherboards that have Pci-e that can do 16X, 8X but you're going to pay more. Really though it doesn't matter. There is pretty much no noticeable difference between SLI running in 16X, 8X and SLI is 8X, 8X.

Alright i just though it was odd not using available lanes but if its because of the motherboard thats understandable i guess lol

Have you checked to see if the first card runs at x16 by itself?
I've seen some weird issues where even a single card would run at x8 for no reason, reseating the card a couple if times usually fixed the problem.

well i had a evga gtx 760 and it always run at 16x i just plopped two 780ti's in and its going at 8x8x im on the MSI x99S SLI plus which i kind of thought would use 16x8x if there were enough lanes, beaucase its kind of a workstation/gaming board and optimized for multiple cards.. In the manual i cant find reference to sli at all it just has info about having one card installed...
