The 80486SX(2) CPU is an 80486DX(2) CPU, but with the FPU disabled.

Is there any way to unlock it? Or its physically desoldered/destroyed by laser? :o

If its not unlockable :
Is the FPU worth getting? As I cannot find any benchmarks online. Does it matter for everyday use, such as taking notes and browsing on the internet? Will it bottleneck my 48k Modem and 16MB of RAM?

The SX version costs about 2x less than the DX version. Also, is the extra 33 MHz worth it on the SX/DX2 version? Or should I just get a Intel Pentium MMX?

Thanks,

No you cant enable the FPU as Intel would laser cut the connections to it on the die when making them. Basically SX's are units which failed FPU testing.

I have to check what 486's are selling for. I know I have at least 1 486dx4-100 in my drawer. LoL
