Temperature, and I suppose performance wise: G1.

The windforce cooler is huge (and ugly! But that's a matter of opinion). The G1 also has a higher base clock.

BUT, the Asus is quieter, and looks better.

Each will perform within ~5 FPS of each other.

Thank you for the quick reply :)  cool thing i noticed on the strix card is the 0db mode, when playing non demanding games its completely silent. gigabytes card is "super overclocked" at from base 1178 to1329MHZ and the strix card is 1114 to 1253MHZ
both same price

I would go with the G1. The cooler is great and the PCB is nice. The 6 + 8 pin is also nice.

The G1 also has the highest set BIOS power limit, which is great if you are overclocking.

Yep, the Strix's fans turn off at idle. It leads to slightly higher idle temps, but complete silence.

And yes. The G1 has a massive overclock, but is an absolutely huge card. You would have to check if it would fit in your case.

You can't really go wrong with either of them.

The card is only 12.28 inches long, which is only about 1.69 inches longer than my MSI. Most mid-tower cases can accommodate it.

It doesn't have a massive overclock, but yes it has a nice out-of-the-box OC. The card is going to boost higher than 1329MHz as well. My MSI is said to boost to 1279MHz, but out-of-the-box it boosts to 1354MHz. It can depend on ASIC quality, though.

I do agree that is either is a good choice, though.

just read some reviews on strix and some people said that the card is voltage locked

I haven't heard anything about that in the OCN 970's Owners Club, but not many have the STRIX. All of the cards are capped at a certain voltage though, at least until we can flash a custom BIOS.

These cards don't need much extra voltage, they need a higher power limit. I can do over +200 core and +200 memory without any added voltage, but add in a higher memory OC and I soon hit the power limit and crash.

If they are the same price, Id go the G1 hands down. In my country, the G1 is $20 more expensive (I'd still pay $20, im a gigabyte fanboy :p )
I went the GALAX EOC. $60 cheaper then the G1 and I purchased 2 for sli haha

so i bought the G1 but a sound like coil whine is coming out UGH https://soundcloud.com/awierdh0b0/970-g1-fan-sound

The G1 is the loudest of the cards, that however does not sound right to me. Did you purchase online or instore? If instore, I'd take it in to get assessed. I feel bad now for recommending a card but I know you may possibly have just gotten a bad egg (which can happen to any component).

Many, many people are getting coil whine with the 970's, it doesn't seem to be specific to any one vendor.

Try and run Valley or Heaven for a few hours and see if it gets better.
