I want to upgrade my current dual monitor setup to dual 4k monitors. I only play games on my primary monitor, the second monitor is just for work. My question is: Can I run my primary monitor with a R9 290X and the secondary with my existing HD 6950?

I have not been able to find a compatibility chart for running 2 GPU's in a machine NOT using Crossfire.

Lastly, in the event that I was not happy with the performance of a single 290X, could I run 2x 290X in Crossfire to drive the primary monitor, and still have the 6950 for the secondary?

You should be able to. I'm not sure the 6950 supports 4k. I'm not sure why you'd want a secondary monitor using 4k anyways. You might have a driver issue if your OS is Vista once the 290 and 69xx cards use different drivers. I think they are on the same one right now however.

I had a feeling of that millwright. I think you need a GCN card to handle 4k. The 69xx is still a VLIW card.
