First time building a pc , not too knowledgeable so bear with me,but if a video card calls for a specific power supply wattage do you "have" to use that. The reason I ask is because the vc calls for 600 watts but the only power supply that is within my budget and I've been recommended is 550, so can I just use the 550 or will it cause problems?

Solution
The wattage on a card is a huge overestimate. They do that so lower end PSUs that dont push their rated wattage, so they have headroom.
My 760 calls for 500w, but draws only around 260 at max load.

Also, to make an educated estimate of your power needs, a complete listing of your system components (make/model) is required. Also, keep in mind that not all PSUs are created equally, regardless of what the labels on them claim.
