I was using a 250GB, 3Gb/s SATA Seagate Barracuda hdd in my desktop. This hdd died and I wish to upgrade to a higher capacity.
Will this motherboard (Asus M2N-MX SE Plus) support a 1TB, 6Gb/s drive ? Maybe a Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 or WD Cavier Green WD10EZRX ?
I understand that the performance will be downgraded to SATA2, but will it atleast see the drive and work properly ?

Appreciate any help.

Hey shanu7. You should have no problem using each of those drives with your mobo. It will just run with max speed of 3Gb/s instead of 6Gb/s. But I wouldn't recommend the WD Green drive as your main system drive. Its purpose is secondary storage. I would suggest that you take a look at the WD Blue drive instead of the Green one. It's a 7200RPM, simple and reliable drive designed for general usage. You could take a closer look at it here: http://www.wdc.com/en/products/products.aspx?id=770

Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks Boogieman, will look that up.

I also have a WD 250GB IDE hdd in the same desktop, which I currently use as a secondary drive for storage. I was just toying with the idea of making this the primary drive and get the new 1TB SATA for secondary storage.

Any thoughts on that ?

Well that's all up to your personal preference. If I were you, I'd go with the SATA drive as a primary drive because it's faster than the IDE one. But if speed is not your main concern, it's all up to you. Just remember to set up the Boot Priority Sequence in BIOS depending on which one you choose as primary and secondary. If you are in fact going to use the IDE drive as primary with your OS, then I guess a WD Green drive would do just fine as secondary storage. :)
