Old goal of Win7 WEI 7.9...

Hey all, I know that Windows Experience Index (WEI) is meaningless, but back when I didn't know that I tried to score a perfect 7.9 and never could.

Today I built my new rig with an i7 5960x (8-core), which had too much cache and crashed the benchmark. I applied the microsoft hotfix, and to my horror, everything was 7.9 except cpu, which was 7.8. I've been stuck on 7.8 CPU through a 3930 and a 4960, and I thought 8 cores might finally net me the 7.9...but no luck. Do you think a modest overclock could make it happen?

I know it's a silly thing to care about since it is such a meaningless number, but deep down, I need it,
before my time with Windows 7 is over, and want to know if there's anything I can do with this 5960x to achieve it.

Congrats, but you didn't need to spend big bucks on a 5960X!

Done with an i7 4970K ($279) with the Turbo multipliers raised a couple of clicks — (Still, I won't have the multi-thread speed you've got).

Good on us both. I too was daunted by that stupid 7.9!
