I want to upgrade my system and have lays hands on a Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9770 3.2 GHz Quad-Core (EU80569XL088NL) will it work in a Aspire X3810 ?

yes but what with? it was top of the line back in 2008/9
that cpu perfectly decent for todays gaming and you wont find anything better at a reasonable price on the 775 socket.
you would have to jump to the intel i5 to get better perfomance and that would mean pretty much a whole new build.
