I was looking for a good CPU cooler (Air-cooling will probably suit me better).
I was going to get the hyper 212 evo, but it doesn't look like it fits in my case, i have a 'N81 - mid tower case'
Measuring from one side to the other is about 169mm, the cooler is 159mm, although this doesn't also count the width of the motherboard, the space inbetween the wall and the motherboard, the size of the CPU+CPU socket + a case fan which is directly above the CPU basically.

Are there any other good 'smaller' options?

I'm quite sure EVO won't fit. Also, I'd get a low profile cooler, Hyper TX3 is 139mm, check if your case has 145mm of space from the MoBo's base. Or else, Noctua L9i would definately fit, it's a sleeping cooler (horizontal).

measuring from the motherboard, i get 160-162mm.
The fan is 20mm.
so i have about 2-3mm to spare, although you've already added in some 'spare' area, as the Hyper TX3 is 136mm right?

I think it should fit, if not i can always take out my intake case fan on the wall above the CPU, and just let it have negative pressure (Or have 1 intake and 1 exaust)

I'm assuming the 'Hyper TX3' has better performance than the 'Noctua L9i' yes?
The 'Hyper TX3' seems a $30-$45 cheaper too!

It'll definately fit w/o case fan, and it *should* fit with the fan too. Feel free to go with TX3, its a good cooler, better than L9i, which's basically a cooler for extremely tight cases.
