Faulty motherboard or PSU

Hello, I'll describe what started happening to my pc recently, hoping someone has an idea:

If I turn off the pc by turning the PSU switch to off, while pc is running, I cannot turn it on again until I unplug 24 pin connector and reconnect it. (i know one is not even supposed to do this, but it happens, losing electricty in the middle of work does the same thing, and probably some other cases, but this one causes it for sure).

So which scenario is more possible? Faulty motherboard (Asus Sabertooth P67) or PSU (Corsair HX1000W). Components are 3 and a half years old, so no more warranty.

I already tried reseting cmos, removing all other components and so on, nothing helps... PSU voltages seem to be ok, measured it with voltmeter. I can also hear some noise (not a fan noise, sounds a bit higher) coming from PSU, even when PC is turned off.

Thanks for all the opinions.

What happens if you unplug the PSU from the wall instead of from the board? If that fixes it nothing is wrong it just needs a reset.

The noise you hear is probably a capacitor discharging. It doesn't necessarily mean there's a fault but it might...

It's likely that the motherboard doesn't like having the power cut abruptly. Like rolli59 said above, this doesn't mean the motherboard is faulty. When this happens, try unplugging the PC from the wall, holding the power button down for 30 seconds and then releasing. See if it works OK when plugged back in to the wall socket.

Thanks, I will try that as soon as I get home. Also I think this started to happen after a bios update. I updated to the latest version about a month ago. Might have to do something with that too anyways, will see what happens with your tips.

Possibly the BIOS update has caused it but it's unlikely. You can restore the original BIOS using the crashfree BIOS feature on your motherboard. There should be a copy of the original BIOS on the driver CD or you might have the most recent one if you backed it up before installing the update.

But just to re-iterate, I doubt the update has caused this and it's probably not exactly "faulty" just a little eccentricity of your motherboard.

Well, this is what happened: When I just unplugged it from the wall, it didnt help, but if I unplugged it and pressed the power button for a few seconds like plywrlw said, it turned on successfully again.
I also found out it is acting pretty random now, sometimes the issue occurs, sometimes it doesnt. Will have to keep testing it and if it becomes annoying, something will have to be replaced.

Thanks for answers, both of you.
