Hey guys, can you please help me with rebuilding my old PC?

Currently have : Intel Q6600 @ 2,8GHz, 4GB DDR2 RAM 800 MHz, Gigabyte P35-DS4, Radeon HD 5850.
Quite old machine - 6 years (except GPU).

What I want:
CPU - AMD FX 6300, cheap, potent & easy to OC.
Cooler - CM EVO 212
GPU - R9 270 2GB
RAM - 2x4 GB 1866MHz ,
PSU - I will use my current Enermax Liberty 500W (is it problem to use 6 years old PSU? No problems so far, have modular design)
---------------------------------------------------------------
MoBo - my biggest dillema!

I want quality board with good, non-overheating VRMs, price max. 140 USD. I plan to OC the FX 6300 to at least 4,2 GHz, maybe 4,5GHz.. So far I have 3 tips:

1) Gigabyte 990 FXA UD3 rev. 4.0 ( http://bit.ly/1vOPpXQ )
2) Asus M5A99X EVO rev. 2.0 ( http://bit.ly/1vTg7zA )
3) MSI 970 Gaming ( http://bit.ly/1sfkpA4 )

Which one to choose? I want some bullet-proof board with at least some options to OC the CPU and not melt the VRMs in the process. Single GPU build. What are your experiences with those?

And another dillema - CPU.
Should I use FX 6300 and OC to 4,2-4,5 GHz or would it be better to get FX 8320 and OC that?

Feel free to suggest some other motherboard (within 140 USD limit), or else some other components.

Thank you in advance!

I'd advise an i5 build to start with, it'd be better than OCed FX 6 or 8, more power efficient, and has a better upgradibility path. AMD AM3+ platform is dead, and getting it right now doesn't make much sense.

We can discuss about it further, but currently from the given boards, GB UD3 is the best for OCing, great MoBo, superb VRMs and feature ladden. I'd advise atleast FX 8, FX 6 is not great to go with high end cards, when you upgrade in future. Also, i5 would be better than both.

And, please get a new PSU, old PSU will have weared out caps which aren't good for this high power requirement build, a 500W or higher from decent brand would suffice, EVGA 500B (minimum) or 600B (recommended), XFX Pro 550W are good choices.

I personally have the FX-6300 with a GA-990FXA-UD3 (rev4.0) overclocked to 4.4Ghz with the same cooler and it runs great. Go with the Asus or Gigabyte one as they are 990FX boards which usually result in more features and better quality than 970 boards. If you can, go with the 8320 and overclock it just as much to get even more performance. Otherwise the FX-6300 will do you fine. I haven't had any hiccups with it and a R9 270X.

edit: i5 would be the way to go though as the previous person stated.

the 8320 is the better cpu so if you can afford it get it.
as for the mothebroard asus do some very strong boards. all produce the same level of oc in there range. so 1 hero board will oc just as well as any of the more feature rich boards in the rog range. even the basic mini atx will do the job better than most boards fro other manufacturers due to its better vrm selection.

Thanks for replies. I would definitely go with i5 build, but the budget is tight. :( Decent i5 (4460) CPU with MoBo (Z79) is like 370$.. AMD is for ~250$.
And good point about wearing out capacitors, I'd rather get a new PSU then. I'll see if I can save money somewhere else.
If I chose the i5 build, I'd have to use my old GPU - radeon 5850, until I save up on R9 270...

MeteorsRaining, what would you recommend for budget i5 build?

I'm from Europe, in my country the i5-4460 costs $223 (because of bad exchange rate). Oh and the ASRock Motherboard doesn't support the 1866 MHz RAMs. I want to buy Kingston 2x4GB 1866 MHz.

Do you have any other suggestion for MoBo, which is less than $100 and is still reliable? I can choose from ASUS, ASRock, MSI and Gigabyte. (I heard MSI uses unreliable Nikos capacitors, so it's on the bottom of the list ;) ).

But you have really convinced me to peek at Intel insted of AMD... Looks like we're choosing the proper MoBo for i5 now :-D

Wise decision to go Intel. Well, the MoBo does support 1866Mhz memory, you just need to enable XMP profile in BIOS. It's a good MoBo for the price, other good options are ASROCK H97 Anniversary, H97 Pro4, GB H97 HD3, Asus H97 plus or basically any H97 MoBo from rock, GB or Asus. I'd avoid MSI too, bad QC.

Thank you. I just figured that if I don't want to OC, I can save money on cooler. Do I really need CM EVO 212?
Oh and just wanted to ask, should I get the i5-4440,4460 or should I take i5-4590 (which I hope is better)? It is only 20 bucks more...
