AMD or change to Intel

ok I've been a AMD processor gamer for the last decade or so, mainly cause in the early days it was for overclocking reasons and squeezing a little more out of the CPU.. I'm due and upgrade and my old system will go to the wife for Sims (I know ha ha ha)..

I'm a budget gamer so my system has always been good for a budget PC.

I've got a GTX 750 so far in a box as it bottlenecks this system grr (school boy error) now I want to stay with AMD but Intel have got very good over the years. I want some opinions on the route to take and this new system is for the next 3-4 years minimal. I'm looking to spend about £130-£180 for a motherboard and CPU bundle and I have seen to many to think yes thats the one.

I don't mind moving away from AMD I'm not passionate about it all to give a monkeys. I don't do anything else on my system but play games, watch movies, listen to music and browse the web.

So basically as long as I can game with great graphics, no Lag and play on-line I will be happy.

I do upgrade over the years like more RAM and better Graphic cards but thats about it.

I will build it all myself.

I think you should then go with the intel route but with an H97 Motherboard so in case the CPU gets old after 4-5 years you'll have something to choose from , AMD's current architecture is in its last year.

I think you should return the GTX 750 and opt for a 750ti or an r7 265 or something along the lines of that for a smoother experience , the price difference is minimal yet the experience is better.

What is your current platform? Please list system specs. (Motherboard, CPU, RAM, etc.)

It is not worth it to switch platforms unless your current parts are so out of date they won't support a modern upgrade path.

If you need to do a motherboard-up rebuild, then you could go with either Intel or AMD and get very good results. TopLuca's ideas above are both good options. AMD tends to give you a little more for your budget though.

If you decide to go Intel, try to build around the new Devil's Canyon CPUs.

Sorry bud yea it is the Ti version and once again I'm finding myself staring at the AMD set-up and its not because of the price.. I think its just my mind set .. I so want to give the Intel a try but for some reason I'm drawn to the AMD.. The ASRock motherboard is a plus as my last 2 builds have had a motherboard by them and I've never had any trouble. argh AMD or Intel ... I know I will never upgrade my CPU though.

yea this system is out of date.. stuck on a AM2+ socket.. it will be a fresh build. The only thing I know is, I won't do an upgrade on the CPU over the years and when it all gets a bit out of date it will be a hand me down to wife or kids.. I will go for a more powerful GPU in time..
