I am planning to get a gaming PC and can spend literally whatever I want on it but at the same time am not gonna get an i7 when I don't need it so which CPU is better for gaming or should I go AMD?
No AMD right now, AM3+ platform is dead, so no upgradibility whatsoever, and FX 6 or 8 doesn't win against i5 in gaming anyways.
For Intel, entry level to medium gaming, i3. For serious to enthusiast level gaming, i5 (best value/money). The extra couple frames and a better rendering CPU, i7 or Xeon (if you don't want to OC).

AMD Is more for Budget gaming. Like a Athlon X4 860K With a R7 260X will do 1080p gaming at Medium settings.
As for Intel, an I3 with a GTX 750 ti is also good for 1080p gaming, but an I5 is pretty much your best choice for gaming. Hook it up with a GTX 760 or higher and you can play almost anything at 1080p on Ultra. I only recommend an i7 if you are doing more than just gaming (Say, Video editing or Heavy Muti-tasking).
Best AMD Processors to buy:
- Athlon X4 860K ($85 @ Amazon)
- FX-8320 ($139.99 @ NCIXUS)

AM3+ platform may be dead in the sense that you cannot upgrade the CPU, but that doesn't mean you can't upgrade an AM3+ system for gaming in other ways (arguably more important ways). It seems the difference between an AMD FX-8350 and an i7 4770K is practically zilch if both have GTX 980s in SLI at resolutions above 1440p.
