I recently just decided to upgrade the ram in my pc build. I have an Asus B85M-G motherboard, which says it can take up to 32gb of 1600mhz ram.

I have put in 16gb (2x8gb) ram sticks at 1600mhz and set the frequency to exactly that in the bios as well as setting it to 1.5v. for some reason my Bios as well as DxDiag are only recognizing it as 8gb. I've made sure maximum memory has been unchecked in msconfig as well as removing and switching around the ram sticks and all that usual trial and error stuff. I have the up to date version of BIOS too.

My old ram still works fine (2x4gb) so I cant see it being an error with the motherboard at all, so I'm guessing I either missed a key setting or one of the sticks is just dead.

Any solution or ideas would be really helpful, I'm not highly technical but i understand most things so dont get over technical with me :)

Thanks a lot !

Have you tried running each stick by itself?

No I havent, (sorry for a possible nooby question) but what would I gain from trying them individually? Would it show me if one is a faulty ram stick?

Correct. I would have said max ram in msconfig, but you said that was fine already. BIOS reads only 8GBs as well?

Yes, BIOS did only read 8gb. But no worries, I found the problem, the first black ram slot was obviously faulty (which is strange because my old ram was working in there less than 4 hours ago) I have since moved both into the two gold slots and I'm getting 16gb show up on both BIOS and on DxDiag. Thanks for the suggestion about running each stick individually as that was how I found the problem. Turns out it was most likely my own fault it wasn't working!

Anyway, thanks for the help, really appreciated!

You can try checking the slot, there might be a bit of crud in there preventing the stick from making proper contact. But glad to hear it's working as you wanted. Slots was next on my list. First step is to make sure you have good sticks.
