i have broadcom 43142 network adapter which came preinstalled on my laptop for wireless networking but it doesn't seem to work with other linux distros i use because this version is not supported and manually installing its drivers is a hassle.so i was thinking to buy TP-Link WN722N wireless usb network adapter which many people suggest and its cheap too
what i wanted to know is that can i use it for my linux distros?i think we can
and what if i connect it when the laptop is on win 8.1[preinstalled os]?what will happen?now there will be two network adapters...the broadcom one and the new one.which one will the laptop use?will i have any choice to use anyone i want?

Solution
The laptop will use the wifi adapter that has an active connection.

USB wifi adapters suck. They have small embeded antennas and are immediatly limited by the 5v output.

Do yourself a favor and just buy an internal card that is supported by linux.
On most laptops they are super super easy to change. 1-3 screws to remove the back cover, 2 screws to remove the card (some just use a spring clip and no screws) and you will need to carefully remove the antenna cables connected to it.
