I am thinking of buying a touchscreen tablet but i3 is too expensive around here, and the one below is n3530. My question is whether it works fine for everyday use (no gaming) e.g microsoft word, excel, browsing, movies etc. Plus it's a quad core so it must have some advantage over an i3. What do you guys think?

What is more important is the clock speed and boost speed of the n3530. I would say that for what you want to do it should be absolutely fine. It may not be as responsive as a desktop or even a laptop, but it should certainly handle web browsing and the Microsoft suite stuff with absolute ease.

What do you mean by responsiveness? I am looking at the ones with SSDs but since the clock speed is 2.16 ghz to 2.58 ghz, don't you think it's sufficient enough to even run older games? I want to get something that can last me 2-3 years.

You get a certain amount of input lag with touchscreens that you don't tend to find with more traditional input methods, at least as far as I have experienced with my Nexus. As to playing older games, I don't really see too much of an issue with playing the older, less intensive stuff, sure. Heck, put something like DOSbox on there and you could play all sorts of stuff :)

Well i didn't have dosbox in mind when i said older lol. I was talking about gta iv and 2010ish games. Also Nexus is android which is a completely different OS compared to windows. Also, would you suggest an i5 in 13.3" in a lenovo without a touchscreen, compared to 11.6" N3530 and a touchscreen. I was thinking about getting a touchscreen portable netbook/ultrabook because I already have a 15.6" laptop with an i7.

Comparing the efficacy of a touchscreen using two OS's tailored to touchscreens seems fair to me, even if the OS's are different. As to your question, given that you already own an i7 based laptop, the n3530 would probably make more sense, though I would not expect it to play anything like GTA4 on anything more than the lowest possible settings. hell, that game barely runs at an acceptable framerate on a desktop rig, let alone a tiny touchscreen machine.

Yeah i agree, gta 4 was a bad example but you know I just want something portable for note taking, browsing, movies etc.

Going by the specs and some user reviews I'd say that n3530 based touchscreen machine would suit you just fine for note taking and movie watching, though gaming on it would probably be unwise if you tried playing any AAA games made in the last 6 or 7 years. In that regard the i3, with its 70% higher single threaded performance levels would be closer to an all round gaming/movie watching/note taking machine.

Yeah because the thing is, n3530 is around 500-550$ and by spending extra 100$ i can get i3. This is something you don't buy everyday and i'm already paying a large amount...but what i read on internet there's a huge difference between n3530's performance compared to i3 haswell, mainly because of the GPU. But I fail to understand the benefit of quad core over a dual core (i3)
