I wasn't sure where to post this.

I'm having a problem with my first build. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/GLQvsY
I'm not very tech smart and have never done anything like this before the problem I'm having is I put in liquid cooling, kraken x41, and now when I turn it on it starts smoking where the power cord goes to the motherboard. My boyfriend thought it was my motherboard so he ordered a new one and same thing happened again. Anyone know what's going on?

Edit:
I have solved this by powering the pump directly from the power supply using a molex connector. I guess it was drawing too much power or something to the motherboard? After reading tons of other posts it was the one suggestion that worked! Thanks everyone.

Solution
Maybe the Kraken has a short in it? Try the stock fan again. If you have no issues, release the Kraken! Get a decent 120mm air cooler, other than the bang/buck Loser Hyper212 EVO; it has many cheaper competitors, all of which cool within +/- 1C-3C (yes, some are [sometimes] better), like the Xigmatek Gaia, if still available).

Are you sure the smoke is coming from the 12 pin on the motherboard?

Inspect the cables from the power supply. See if any are burnt or if any connectors are melted.

If you are seeing smoke you should be able to find burnt/melted parts.

on the kraken cooler is uses three pins to run and the install vidoe from nxzt says to use the cpu 4 pin header. make sure he not trying to use the wrong header on the mb. (audio or any other 4 pin header) make sure it says cpu. have him look at how it wired. the vendor could have mis wired the power plug. also have him look online see how the mb vendor wired the fan port.

Is it the 24-pin connector that is smoking?
Although they should not fit the wrong way, make sure you have not reversed an 8-pin PCIe power cable with the 8-pin CPU power cable. This would cause an immediate short. That the short circuit is allowed to persist long enough to create smoke makes me wonder if the PSU's protection circuits are working. You might have a local shop check that PSU for you.

I'm not able to see anything melted or anything. I took everything out and expected every inch and everything looks fine. It smells horrible in the place where the power goes, I'm positive it came from there I watched while it was turned on. As for where the header is, it's in "cpu fan".

Also wanted to point out that this wasn't happening when I had the stock fan instead Of the kraken.
Thanks
