What else should I upgrade?

Solution

Totally, it's one of the best price to performance cards out there. It's on par with AMD's R9 290x. The 970 is also cheaper, consumes less power and outputs less heat. It also has a lot of headroom for overclocking.

If you don't have an SSD, you should get one because it just makes the PC experience that much faster. Load times, boot times, application installtion is all significantly faster than a normal HDD. Note that FPS in games is not affected.

Do you know of a GPU that sits in between the GTX 970 and 980?

I don't think there any. The 780ti is just slightly under the 980 and above the 970 but I wouldn't bother going with that.
More power consumption and it's now discontinued at the 980 was made to replace it.
Just get a 970 and call it a day :p

Alright, the 970 will still be a good card, right?
