hi, can someone help me to build a good gaming rig for 4K display
my budget is about 3000$-3500$

thanks ahead :)

More about : gaming rig

Well I just built my own 4k and feel like I didn't do it right. Here's What I would build if I could re-build it. BTW, I feel like 1440p+120hz > 4k+60hz Due to poor software and game support at 4k.

Here's the build

if you want to change anything that's really just fine. Look into my reasons and you have your own build.

GPU: MSI 980 Gaming
imo, 2-way SLI 780ti or 980 is necessary. Since 980 > 780ti and holds the same price tag, got for 2x 980. You can search those benchmark, but I can just tell you only games that came out this year would have significant difference at 4k.

CPU: i7-4790k
You have actually two choices to build a 2011/1150 platform. Since you mentioned it is for gaming. I assume 1150 would probably suits you a bit better. so the best 4.0g base block 4790k is What i pick. You also can build a 5820k but it may over price cuz DDR4 are fking expensive. You have the budget quite good, so AMD is out.

Monitor: Asus PB287Q
Almost all 4k monitors at 60hz that's under 1k price is TN based. There's 2 IPS by Dell that I know(only talking about 60hz), comes with 24''/32''. I feel like the 32'' is either too big or too expensive. The 24'' is too small. Acer XB280HK is really a good deal that you absolutely want to look into besides the Asus I mentioned. It's the only G-sync 4k on the market. The only reason I don't like it, is because I had bad experience with them.

SSD:Intel 530 480g
No particular reason, just pick what's reliable and good warranty. 1tb or 512gb raid 0 should be enough for a normal gamer.

RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws X 1866
g.skill really deliver good oc ram, but not likely you would want to. so 1600/1866/2000 or higher. You won't really need it that fast of ram, so again, pick whatever you like, I personally prefer G.skill and following by corsair. 16gb is just sweet not too less not too more.

Motherboard:MSI Z97 Gaming 7
This is really a feature needed. Gaming 7 is very popular and price looks good. I tried to created a black/red look for the build so, that kinda pull the trigger. You can look into Asus z97 deluxe, z97 wifi ac etc.

CPU cooler: Kraken x61
If you want everything to the budget or some second handed parts, you can probably even build a custom loop for both cpu and gpus. But I guess that lose the point of getting a new cool looking powerful rig. So AIO looks better than tower cooler, I went with AIO. Check out these AIOs they all seem to be fine. Kraken x61, Corsair H100, Swiftech x220<-- I think there's a new one just about to come out.

Case: NZXT H440
This is really a opinion on look > feature in most cases. I like h440 the look of it, so I recommend it. Case flow is restrictive compare to other, no 5.25'' bay is a sort of downside to some ppl. Not a good custom loop case and airflow optimized or featured case. You may or may not need more good static pressure fan but they aint that expensive afterall.

PSU: Corsair AX860
You will need at least 600w. To OC a bit all your component, its better to have it bigger. I am not a PSU expert so I could be wasting money here. fully-modular is really what you want.

Again, if you are interested in 1440p at 120hz, check out ROG swift or Overlord Tempest.

Try this. It will run almost all games at medium/high at 4k. You could spend another $1k on a 295x2, but there are quad-crossfire scaling issues, so it would not make much sense from a value for money standpoint

I think you will need to increase your budget unless you want to play on medium/low settings. $3500 for a 4k rig that plays well you would have to skimp on a lot of important parts.

4790k
Z97 mb
2 x8gig of RAM
2 x GTX 980's
750 - 850 watt gold rated psu
And if you want fast response then an M.2 solid state hard drive [ buy a motherboard with the appropriate connector ]

should be the core of the system IMO . Spending more on a socket 2011 system does not make sense . The cpu demands of the game wont change at 4K but the graphics requirements do so spend money where its needed

That ASUS monitor is definitely the best choice

980SLI is way better in terms of power consumption. They perform pretty much the same. Mostly 980 SLI exceeds 290x2 5fps in most benchmark I read at 4k. Plus, you have room to oc 980 due to heat and power.

Review from Tech of Tomorrow, as reference

I don't know how much storage you need, but I would honestly suggest you to raid 0 SSD and backup your important files at a external or NAS

Everythings good, just that if you get a 60hz monitor you can ONLY SEE 60fps, so get a 144hz monitor to actually see 144 fps.

But there are no 144hz 4k monitors, and the OP wanted to game at 4k

Everything looks nice, just wondering if may, what country do you live in? In the US, PB287Q is actually the same as U28D590D.
