Hi, I have a problem where my laptop will turn on (power button lights up) but the screen will remain black and it will be frozen (Caps light on doesn't change if I press the button) if and only IF it is plugged in.

So I have to make sure my laptop is not plugged in when I power it up, otherwise it will freeze.

Same thing when it is sleeping after I close the lid. When I open the lid, the laptop must be unplugged otherwise it will stay on the black screen and I can't do anything but unplug the power cord and restart the laptop.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with Windows 8.1.

Please help me and thank you!

Sounds like a power adapter problem.

Are you using the oringinal power adapter and is the computer still under warranty?

Yea I'm using the original adapter. I just bought this laptop in August.

The adapter also works fine, it charges the laptop and everything. I just have to make sure it's not plugged in when I turn on the laptop....after I press the power button and the screen turns on, then I could plug it in.

I supposed I could get used to that but it's annoying as hell.

This is a problem in either the power adapter or the motherboard itself. Send it in for warranty, otherwise it could damage something.

Damn that sucks...I was hoping it wouldn't come to that.

Well thanks anyways.
