ok, heres what i got, i want to install windows 8.1 on a GIGABYTE GA-F2A88XM-D3H, but it says when installing windows 8.1 i need to update the drivers. My question is, how do i update the motherboard drivers before installing the OS? Is this even possible?
I can download the drivers to a flash drive and install them that way from my other computer if need be, is that possible?

Thanks for any help!!

If it's similar to Windows 7, if youre using a USB 3 port it needs USB 3 drivers. Use a USB 2 port

^ Yes, you need to use usb 2.0 port to install windows.

You may also need to load AHCI or RAID drivers if using AHCI or RAID. Have not instlaled Win 8 but on 7 there is a spot that says Load Drivers when selecing hard drive partitions.

im not sure what your referring to Paul NZ. this is what the site says:

Support for Windows 8.1/8/7 32-bit/64-bit
* If you plan to install Windows 8.1, please download the latest drivers from GIGABYTE's website.

how do i do that before installing windows 8.1? or is it saying AFTER installing i need to update?

i guess im wording the question wrong? i know how to install the OS through USB. what im asking is, the MOBO is NOT windows 8.1 "ready" it says that it can be installed but i have to update the MOBO's drivers when installing 8.1

So are you using a USB 3 port or not?? It can ask for drivers if youre using a flash drive and plugging it into USB 3 port. It needs USB 3 drivers.

Like I said use a USB 2 port, if you are ^

Outside of the AHCI or RAID drivers I was talking about earlier, all other drivers are loaded after the OS is installed. Espically when most drivers are not just some dll files in the system32 folder anymore, they are their own applications.

i need to make sure the mobo drivers are usb 2.0?
do i put the mobo drivers on the same flash and install with the os?

It may not ask for drivers if you plug it into a USB 2 port. Theyre only needed if you use a USB 3 port

us a USB 2.0 port to install windows

AFTER windows is installed then you can use a different flash drive or the CD that came with your motherbord to install your drivers.

so basically what its saying means nothing lol? i just install OS as normal, then go to gigabytes web site and update the mobo drivers?
i was assuming that by the way it says i need to update, it meant it would not function with windows 8.1 until AFTER i update.
If it is like your saying, then it is no different than any other OS install ive ever done :)

Its because if you were using a USB 3 port it needs USB 3 drivers. If you use a USB 2 port it doesnt need drivers. Thats how the install works

After, just install windows using a usb 2 port. Or you'll be there all day and get nowhere
