Is 650W enough for the R9 280?

Okay, so I returned a Asus DirectCUII 280 3GB card from newegg due to it being a faulty card. I thought it was just because it was faulty but things get me wondering if it's possibly the PSU that's causing this? I have a BFG GS 650W power supply which has never failed on me for a few years. The only problem I find with this PSU is that the company has been shut down but other than that the PSU itself runs no problem.

Is 650W good enough for the graphics card?

note: currently have a GT 630 in the PC and it runs fine.

Thanks!

650w should be more than enough for a r9 280 gpu .. it shouldnt have any problems at all unless its a weak un efficient 650w psu .. i suggest you replace that psu with this...

this psu is cheap and is really energy efficient and will serve you for atleast 3 to 4 years

Depending on the rest of your hardware.

Usually I would say yes, but that PSU brand is generic, and generic PSU brands in general are not to be trusted. They tend to advertise peak wattage as nominal instead of maximum sustained wattage. So when you load them near the advertised wattage, they burn and sometimes they burn your other components.

Get a 80+ certified PSU from a good and well known brand.

Thank you all for the replies. I was just wondering if it was my PSU or not that caused the card before to be faulty and was just wondering if it was safe to put inside my computer. I will defiantly consider buying the EVGA Bronze 600B PSU in the future though since it is pretty cheap!
