Hello everyone I was wondering if gaming surfaces (mouse mats) are actually worth getting for gaming? Will it be much better than a wooden desk when using an optical sensor mouse?

Thanks for Answering :)  :)  :)

I personally prefer the $1.50 cloth mouse pads, I tried one of the gaming pads but it just wasn't very good. I really don't think you will see a noticeable improvement on your K/D ratio with one. Although a mouse pad of some sort will probably give you better feedback than wood with an optical mouse, sometimes it doesn't work quite right.

I will probably buy a mouse mat anyway. It is true that desk may ruin the sensor in the mouse? I've heard this rumour.

I have never heard that before.

It won't ruin the sensor, but it would damage the bottom of the mouse. A mouse mat also improves the performance of the mouse. The Steelseries QCK+ is a nice one, it's like most cheap ones, but just higher quality, more durable.

my opinion is also that $5 mouspads work just fine (i prefer the thicker 1/4" ones not the 1/8" ones) and that gaming mousepads are overpriced for little gain.

however, the cheaper gaming pads such as the goliathus arent bad since they give you edge stitching which means no fraying on the edges of the pad. i would not spend any more though and most certainly i would not buy a hard pad.

a wooden desk might track fine and it might not. if its glossy its more bound to have issues from reflection while if its matte it likely will track fine. however the woodgrain will chew up the teflon feet of the mouse pretty quick unless its ultraflat and smooth so a pad would be ideal.

i personally use a larger normal mousepad (actally a gun cleaning mat made of the same material since i liked the design but its 100% the same material and build of a mousepad). my secondary (which now goes with my laptop) is my 1/4" thick standard black mousepad which works excellent.

I have a Razer Kabuto and it slides all over the place. I think it might be my fault because I kind of drag my wrist when I play but make sure that the mouse pad you choose has good grip
