Hey all,
As the title says...will an r9 270x run with a 500w psu? Specs are as follows
CPU: i5 4440
MoBo: Gigabyte GA-B85M-D3H
Ram: Kingston HyperX Fury (2x4gb) at 1600MHz
PSU: Antec VP500P
Case: Circle CC830
So, I've got all parts above, except the GPU which i am hell bent on picking but at the last moment i f'ed up and forgot that the r9 270x needs a minum of 600W. Could you please help me out by telling me if i could run it. I'm not gonna overclock anything, just want it all to run smoothly.
Thanks.
PS, sorry if this is similar to another thread posted, but i guess my specs etc are different...hence the new post.

That's fine mate. You acutally have some headroom.

As Scizor119 stated, that power supply will be fine for your setup. Card manufacturers usually always put a higher power supply rating for their cards for additional headroom.

I'd still go for a bigger supply for future upgrades etc. 600-650w is the sweet spot.
Get a quality one from Antec(VP series is alright), EVGA, Seasonic, XFX, Corsair(depends on series) etc.

You make a fair point, man. Guess I'll ask the Computer guy if he'll take the PSU back...

In case, he doesn't, could you tell me what could be the potential problems I'd be facing? I mean, would my PC crash suddenly or something and is it possible that the entire wattage gets utilized? *Getting anxious, now*

Your PC will run fine with that power supply. You don't want to push the power supply to it's limit because decent to lower quality PSU can fail while under load. Also, over time, power supplies lose their efficiency so that 450w(has 85% efficiency) is be even lower at that's when it gets a little sketchy. I advise you to try to get a bigger capacity one and a quality PSU since they are better at delivering a stable and clean power to your system. If you plan on keeping this one for a while and swapping it out later on, you will be fine :)
