Hi
My current CPU is an Intel core i7 930 2.8GHz I'm going to get 2 GTX 970s soon but am wondering if my CPU would be a bottleneck? If so would it still be a bottleneck for a single 970?

More about : core 930 8ghz bottleneck gtx 970s

Single GTX 970, not a chance.

Dual... I think it will, but depending on the game.

Thanks. I was considering getting a cheap Xeon CPU for my current platform like a 266Ghz 6 core would that be okay for dual 970s?

Most consider/opt for dual GPUs only for gaming at 2560x1440 and above, where the GPU(s) will nearly always be the bottleneck. Rarely does a 6 core cpu even keep up with (much less, outperform/outframe) a higher clocked quad core.

But it would if you overclock the 6 core?

The higher the res, the less impact a few more/less hundred MHz of cpu speed has on performance in gaming benchmarks...

At basic 1080P, however, both the cpu and gpu have significant impact.

(That being said, twin 970s would still rock, and the pair can be carried with you to any future mb/cpu upgrade in the future.
