Hello! So this morning i went to turn on my computer to be welcomed by the bios screen with it stating that my cpu is overheating and my fans running at insane speeds. The cpu temp was 85-89c and the fan about 400rpm. I went to the os and used a program to read the temp and it said the same thing. I also smelled burning metal when i opened my pc. Also to note the heatsink was flaming hot when i touched it. I have a i5 processer and a p8h67-m pro motherboard. Sorry for weird typing. Using my phone.

Could be a problem with your heatsink/fan cooler for the CPU. 400RPM isn't normal for a CPU fan, I'd get it replaced with an aftermarket one like a CM Hyper 212 Evo.

Hm that would be a good idea but. It was workin perfect the day before. Also the heatsink was hot as heck. Ot almost sounds as if the motherboard or cpu are doing something funky

Well we can narrow it down to being the CPU fan or the motherboard not controlling the fan properly through the CPU fan header because it's only spinning at 400RPM. I'm assuming you're using the stock cooler from intel? They are supposed to do the job fine but an aftermarket one is always a better idea. It might have been working yesterday but decided to take a crap today :D

That makes sense! Yeah the fan was spinning super fast. Also i just took off the heatsink and the paste is all dry like i run my finger over it and nothin comes off. Well ill take your advice and pick up a aftermarket fan! Hopefully it fixes it!

Glad to be of help. If your case supports it, pick up a CM Hyper 212 Evo :

Great budget cooler and it'll blow away the stock one (as do most aftermarket coolers do)

edit: Clean off the old thermal paste on the CPU with rubbing alcohol and a coffee filter/eye glasses wipe.

Just a little edit, get some isopropyl alcohol for cleaning that thermal paste off. The purer the better (%)
