Hi, I am in the process of building a gaming system for a friend. I'm on a tight budget so when i saw a gigabyte z87 motherboard for £50 I was looking forward to a cheap motherboard.

However, this specific motherboard (Gigabyte GA-Z87-D3HP) is sold at about £100 on many other sites. This made me suspicious whether the motherboard was a faulty/B-grade version (off Scan.co.uk)

It seems to good to be true (half price mobo off a reputable website)? I don't see anything explaining why the price is low? Anyone know if this is a genuine functioning motherboard or if there is something wrong with it?

well the z87 is a generation behind now, they could be liquidating stock no indication of refurb status... the review about the bios is iffy however. The price is about on par for what it's selling here in the us for (high 90s) as open box/used/refurb.

would there be a better alternative in a similar price range that can run an i5-4690k?

EDIT:

Just had a quick look and found a Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel Z97 for £60 on overclockers uk, would that be a better option?

not sure, i typically go with asrock or asus boards for builds... I do recall seeing the comments about the ud3 having an advantage... a mild or auto overclock should be okay on that... i'd search for some overclocking reviews on the board.
