Would a Corsair CX 500 be able to provide enough power for an MSI GTX 970 Twin Frozr just for one or two days? I am getting my 970 tomorrow and was wondering whether it's worth using it for 1-2, or wait till my new PSU arrives. Is there a chance the card might get damaged beyond repair?

Solution
Your fine to use the CX500 but don't overclock.

A MSI GeForce GTX 970 Gaming needs 28 amps on the 12v rail and a 500 watt power supply with 1 - 6 pin and 1 - 8 pin PCIE power connection , the CX500 is sufficient to use and meets the requirements.

I literally just answered a very similar question a moment ago lol. You'd want at bare minimum 500W for a single card 970 solution. CX series power supplies are low success and degrade hard. I'd also suggest somewhere between 600-650W recommended for using this card, and or overclocking safely.

Sorry about that didn't read the thread you're referring to. I ordered a Seasonic M1211-620 EVO (620watt PSU) but it might be late for 1-2 days.

The CX series are made with cheaper parts, hence the 3 year warranty, but they aren't made with bad parts, hence the 3 year warranty. The new 970 is actually really low power and pulls less than a GTX 760. The CX 500 might not give you stable high overclocks on it, but it will run it for normal and mild OC just fine, you won't be pulling close to capacity for the PSU.

I wanted to wait for the ASUS STRIX that's gonna be released tomorrow in the UK but had already pre ordered and waited a whole week for shops to re-stock on the MSI GTX 970. What's your initial opinion on the card?
