I have (2) 550 ti on a board that only supports xfire. Is there a safe way to make them work in sli or any way at all. If not and they are both plugged in do they still both draw power even though only one is in use?

Solution
If the motherboard only supports Crossfire, there is no way to have the two NVidia cards work with each other. You can still use both cards (to run different monitors), but if you don't need them, you'd be better off just uninstalling the second card. As long as it's installed into the motherboard, it will draw power from the power supply and may take PCI-E lanes from the first card.
