I have been saving money and observing parts for a while now and I have all my parts picked out except a motherboard and I'm looking for suggestions. I'm going to get a i7 4790k CPU and a gtx 980 zotac Amp! Gpu . I was looking into z97 chip set but really don't know

The popular entry level Z97 mobos are:
MSI Z97 Guard-Pro
MSI Z97 GAMING 3
Gigabyte Z97-HD3P
Asus Z97-A

Out of these three the Asus Z97-A excels for budget Z97 chipset mobo.

In that case the asus z97-a fits your description

It supports 2 way sli and has 2 pci slots.
If you want a cheaper option then you can get the asrock z97 extreme3 it also supports 2 way sli and has plenty of pci slots.
