I recently bought an R7 250 for my old computer for friends to play on. It has a 240w PSU and it runs well, plays well, and no blue screens or any issues at all. If I run it like this will it cause any damage to the card? The pc has never randomly turned off or anything like that. The graphics card that used to be in it was a GT 640, and it died with a bit of smoke. Conclusion: I am a bit afraid that the lack of power will do damage to the card over time, and it will end up like the GT 640 which died in a year and 1/2.

A R7 250 SHOULD USE A 350W power supply , BEING UNDERPOWERED WILL kill the PSU quicker.

No damage will be done to the card even if the pc starts to mess up. all the card will do is recognize it's not drawing enough power, but no damage to the card, most likely just to ur PSU...Lol

it requires no 6 pin pci-e which puzzles me, I would think that it would run fine.

240 is still light for the card.

Hello... The important #'s on the PS is the +12Vdc current rating on it... it is the Workhorse for the CPU and GPU.
1) What does it read?
2) What CPU are you using?

The system is SFF, would you recommend getting a new power supply for it? if so it might be hard to find one of 550w. In addition, 550w is the minimum for my GTX 770, that is in my main rig and it has a 620w bronze, so I would suspect a R7 250 would take much less power than my beastly 770. Correct me if I'm wrong?

Like I stated above a decent 350 would do fine.

On that rig I'm running an i5 650 @ 3.2 GHz, 1 7200 RPM 320GB, 8GB of ram, and that R& 250.

Yeah it may be a 75wat from straight outta the box. If it's for a gaming pc then it will definitely draw more power 1. since it's a older card and 2. because it's under a load, and any card will draw more power depending on what you do with it. So a good brand 350w will do.

Hello... It appears to me ( with a 150% safety factor ) you can make this work, The PS has dual +12Vdc lines built into it... be sure your have good air flow to your PS and it doesn't get plugged up with dust/animal hair etc. Don't try to do any Over Clocking on it.

So my R7 250 will work without any damage over time?

Hello... I have never Blown a Computer part when the Power Supply would goes up in Smoke... I say you are good for now... PS's do normally fail over Time... after Gaming a while put your hand on the PS case for a temperature Check.
