question about r9 280x

i was removing my GPU off my mobo and i was grabbing it from the side and then i accidentally grabbed it where than fan is and freaked out. My question is will doing that damage the fan or graphic performance? i put it in and it works fine as if nothing happened. also will 2 r9 280x's be as good as a single gtx 970? or will one gtx 970 be better?

Two 280x's will be a fair bit faster than a 970, but they'll also be a fair bit more expensive and produce WAY more heat and noise, along with requiring a MUCH larger power supply and a motherboard that supports crossfire.

As for damage, well... it works, right? You're covered. Unless you could tell something was breaking, why are you freaking out? "It works fine as if nothing happened" should be your answer. :)

As you already owns a 280x, getting another similar 280x will be the best bang for your dollars especially if you can get the second card cheap. But of course as being mention, you must be able to manage the psu and the heat.

i have 1000w psu n a i7 4790k, will a 2nd 280x be too much for my psu?

if i get a 2nd 280x, will i have 6gb of memory instead of just using 3gb with one card? how do i know how much more power i get from using 2 of the cards?

No you will only still have 3gb. I use a psu calculator(can't remember which one), taking into consideration all the hardware i have including the rating of every fans and pump i am using. The result came slightly short of 800watts. Well when i still have my x850, i never have any psu issue even when the system is stress out. So i am very certain if you have a decent psu, 1000watts will give you lots of headroom.

will i see a big difference in details of maps and characters? or will 2 280-x's just be faster for faster fps?

Yes the improvement in details are quite stunning. Definitely worth getting a second 280x! But you will have to lower or off aa if you running 4k monitor like me. Contrary to the general comments that you don't need aa with 4k, i can see clear difference with different level of aa on 4k, thus the future plan for a 290x cf.
