Nzxt phantom case 001 fan controller

I just bought a new nzxt phantom case I'm worried my fan controller is faulty. It's not a low medium and high. It's a exhoust and intake controller but On the box it says it's a speed controller. Can anyone clarify this for me

Hey there! The external controller on my Phantom 410, after wiring the fans to it and plugging in the molex connector, worked fine for a while. Then it started to be unable to control the fan speed, then started smoking and shut down the PC altogether and from then on it wouldn't post. I would never trust the fan controller on the NZXT Phantom cases, and instead just plug the fans into the motherboard.

My motherboard doesn't have extra connectors
