Absolutely, buy an external enclosure. You mount the drive inside the enclosure the SATA to USB controller will plug into the drive. They come with the need cables. If it's a desktop drive (3.5"), it will also come with a power adapter to power it. There are a few manufacturers that make these.

If you want specific details, I can provide links to products that will suit your needs. Please provide the details of the drive. Is it 2.5" (laptop drive) or 3.5" (desktop drive).

Here is an example of an 3.5" external enclosure:

Another option that you maybe haven't thought of is a NAS (Network Attached Storage). Instead of connecting it to you computer via USB, you connect it to your router and can have it accessible to all your computers on the network. You can get them for 1 drive all the way up to 16 or more drives. If the NAS has more than one drive bay, they support RAID (multiple formats). They aren't as portable as a single USB external drive, but if you only intend to keep it in one place and have a network with more than one computer or Smart TV / DVD / media player connected to the network, it's very handy. Here is an example of one of those:

Think of a NAS like a mini computer or file server. They are very versatile, just not really portable.
