Girlfriend just purchased an MSI R7 265 2GD5 OC 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0 from NewEgg, and after installing it in her computer, we got no output. Verified the following:
- Monitor was on the right input source
- BIOS had correct graphics card load order (i.e. - check PCI-E slot before defaulting to integrated graphics)
- PCI-E slot should be good (swapped in my GeForce GTX 650 Ti and everything displayed fine)

Okay, so NewEgg just shipped a bad card, right? Except here's where it gets interesting: the new card works fine in my computer! Quite frankly, I have no effing clue what could be going on...my best guess is that the card is defective in some bizarre, creative way...or there's some kind of incompatibility I'd overlooked with her specs before recommending the card to her. Please, save me from sleeping on the couch!

Her specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H
CPU: Intel i5-3570K 3.40Ghz Quad-Core
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600
Video Card: MSI R7 265 2GD5 OC 2GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0
PSU: 650W
Windows 7

My specs:
Mobo: ASRock Z77 Extreme6
CPU: Intel i5-2400 3.10Ghz Quad-Core
RAM: 16GB DDR3 1333
Video Card: MSI GeForce GTX 650 Ti 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI-E 3.0
PSU: 700W
Windows 8.1

So, bad card, or am I missing something obvious? (Apologies if I've forgotten any additional useful information)

The card is compatible with her mobo. Unplug psu from wall socket, remove mobo battery, hold power on button for 30seconds, re insert battery, plug psu back into wall and reboot. Also, make sure the cord from your monitor is going into the gpu's port and not the port of the mobo (just making sure).

Try plugging into the the other pcie ports to see what happens

Tried unplugging/removing battery, verified cord, no change. I tried the other PCIE slot earlier, same results.

Well you've established the gpu is not faulty so it's got to obviously be something going on with her system. I'm going to say the culprit is definitely the motherboard. Her other card works so the mobo is not physically damaged this leads to only one thing and that is something in the bios of the mobo.
Has the mobo been flashed with the latest bios?

Reading around on the net, this mobo has give ALOT of people this exact same problem. Have faith though, some have been resolved. Let me know if you've flashed to the latest mobo bios.

You, sir, have earned yourself a full pint of beer the next time you're in my neck of the woods. Updating the BIOS is what did it. I considered doing it earlier, but couldn't remember if I'd need to go into DOS etc. so I decided I'd save it for last. I might not have even thought about it being related if it weren't for your suggestion, though. A THOUSAND thanks :)
