Hey chinita0018. Try through disk management. Check out this link and choose the corresponding OS for detailed instructions on how to do that: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3865/

Hope that helps.

You could also try to Write Zeros with DLG (Data Lifeguard Diagnostic). This writes zeros on each block of the hard drive, but your data becomes practically almost impossible to be recovered after it. You could try to format this again it after you've done that. Here's a link for the program (it's free): http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810
And here's a link with instructions on how to do that: http://wdc.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1211/

Let me know if this works for you.

When you write zeros it deletes everything on the HDD - including the file system. And yes, unfortunately it can take a lot of time depending on the drive's capacity. Now you should format the drive with the specific file system you want e.g. Fat, NTFS.

i dnt know what to choose between the FAT and NFTS. so whaty i did is just next next then finish. after using the data life guard i successfully formatted the HD. then from disk management disk 1 is not initialized and the other box i cant make a new volume. so what i did is initialized it and make a new volume after doing that still it says the driver needs to be formatted.

You did well initializing the drive. After you've created the new volume, format the drive with the NTFS file system. Just follow the link from my first post, it should be Ok to be formatted this way now.
