Hi guys,

This is my first time trying a SLI configuration so I'm a bit noobish when it comes to this.

I just bought 2 Asus GTX 980 Strix cards, installed in PCIEx16 1 and PCIEx16 2 slots, but it won't get past POST, it just hangs there on POST, can't enter BIOS either.

Tried changing the bridge to other terminals, tried HDMI - DP - same thing.

Tried one card by itself, same thing.

Both cards have sufficient power - White LED - 4 x 8 pin PCIE power cables coming from Corsair AX 1200watt PSU.

Plugged in my old GTX 670 and it fired up.

Mobo is a Gigabyte G1 sniper 3, I'm pretty certain it can support these cards. Any thoughts ?

Have you tried both cards 1 at a time?

No I have not tried that yet. Both cards rendered the POST graphics so my Guess is neither card is faulty. It seems like a configuration problem of some sort to me.

On another note, I read that for stability I should have the ATPX4 power connected, though that is only suggested for more than 2-way config. I'll plug that in and see if it makes any difference.

I'll also try the other card by itself, thanks.

Well this is interesting, I went to test the other card by itself, same thing, just hangs there on POST - can't enter BIOS.

Sat there with my head buried in my tower, over a minute passed and Bing! Windows loads :o

So, the cards in both configurations were working all along, but it takes POST more than a minute to finalize as opposed to 1 second with my GTX 670. Not ideal but beggars can't be choosers lol.

Still curious as to why I can't enter BIOS.

Ok well the solution was to update my Mobo Bios. Now it passes POST in 1 second again, and I can access the BIOS now.

Also for anyone else running new cards in (not so old) boards, it might not let you SLI until you update your BIOS. As soon as I updated, windows tells me my system is "SLI capable now"

New cards hmmph!
