WIN 7 logo freeze OR blinking underscore - what causes this? (Asus X99S Samsung evo 840 250gb drive)

Hi, I have a computer setup with a new Asus X99s motherboard, Crucial DDR4 ram and i7-5930k. From before I have a R9 290X and win7 64bit sp1 on a samsung evo 840 250gb SSD. The GPU and CPU are both watercooled and running at nice temperatures.

Every now and then, and seemingly more often when I start the PC after it has been turned off for a while, I get either a win 7 logo freezing mid animation OR a blinking underscore, forcing me to reboot and get the option to launch windows repair.

I've tried running memtest (memtest+ wouldn't boot from the usb stick for some reason), but that didn't come up with any errors (only ran an hour, should I let it run longer and repeat the tests again?). I also tried samsung magician but it didn't give any errors on the SSD. I didn't have any problems with the same SSD, GPU and attached USB things (keyboard, X52pro, mouse, wifi, dk2) with my old motherboard ASUS P8Z77-V DELUXE and i7-3770K so I'm currently just guessing it might be something motherboard-related...?

Is the logo freeze/underscore thing something that might be caused by a faulty motherboard?

Sorry for the long post :)

I have the same Issue as you do, Got an Asus z97 Deluxe motherboard, Samsung 840 Pro 250GB SSD, Win 7 64 bit. Not running a water cooler on mine yet, planning on installing one.

Windows 7 logo freezes on boot up randomly (as you said: its mostly freezes) Sometimes, the logo goes real slow, like its only running on a single core. Then sometimes it just starts, no issues. Runs perferctly fine until one needs to reboot for some reason.
Have reinstalled Win 7 on the SSD multiple times, and replaced the 16GB Corsair RAMs ... (No errors on the memtest, but didn't run it for long either)
Thinking motherboard issue, or Power supply failure? (mines rather old)
Did you ever solve yours?
