Hello!

I have an AMD FX-8320 in my build, and when I'm gaming on games like Arkham City the temperature skyrockets from an idle of 35C to 54C when gaming. Is that too hot? :/  I have a Thermaltake Contac 21 as my CPU cooler, since I have a slightly small case a Cooler Master K380.

(Bonus question!) I also wanted to know whether my GPU is running too hot as well, it's an R9 280x and will heat up to 64C when gaming.

Thanks a lot!

54C is not hot for an FX-8320. Is not cold either. It's warm. 65C is the beginning of hot.

Both are doing just fine.

CPU needs to stay under 60C.
GPU needs to stay under 90C, preferably closer to 80C.

So you are just fine. :)

Just so you know, FX CPUs start throttling at around 63C.

Yes, you are right, I've looked on some sites and they say that above 60C is a risk, 70C is a max, not recomended.

And for the GPU, 64C is also good. GPU's can run a little hotter, ~ 80C.

Get a Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO, nothing better until 70$ price point. :)

Ahh, that's what I thought. But it wouldn't fit in my case. It's a few mm too big.

Hmmm pretty sure it will fit in the K380.

No, just checked. Case says 155mm for CPU Cooler, Hyper 212 Evo is 159mm.

Thanks again Novuake! :D

PS: Was tempted to just sort of bang out the side a bit. XD Not entirely sure what that'd do to the plastic panel.

Just a quick little extra question. XD As long as I'm under that 60c it's alright? Because on newer games I reach exactly 60c and sometimes it goes up to 61c.

Nevermind! I am such a dick. xD I was reading the wrong temperature that whole time, now that I'm not sleepy and have woken up properly! I realised where I went wrong, hooray for me! :D

Hahah just to answer, stay under 60C, if you EVERN hit 63C, then get a better cooler.
