Hi. I've been having this issue with my PC for a while now. The first time it happened I was trying to turn on the computer for the first time that day and it did not turn on from first press of power button. After I pressed the button multiple times it did turn on. This happened a second time and I did the same thing and it turned on but the third time it happened it did not turn on no matter how many times I pressed it. Luckily, after swapping out the power cord for another one it turned on from first press, no clue why. I thought maybe that was the issue but nope it happened again later on. It happens about once every two weeks or so and only when I go to turn it on for the fisrt time in the day. It happened today and I had to press the button repeatedly for it to turn on.

I think it's the motherboard. First of all the "smart fan mode" doesn't work and I can't control my CPU cooler fans when they are plugged into the CPU fan headers. I have them plugged into the system fan headers and control them that way. Secondly, the CPU cooler fans and all of the case fans are making noise that they did not do before. It isn't very loud but it is audible and these fans were dead silent before.

Here is my build...

Case- Carbide 500R
Mobo- MSI G45 Z87
CPU- i5 4670k
CPU Cooler- NH-D14
GPU- MSI 780 ti Gaming
RAM- Gskill Ripjaw 1600xmp
PSU- Seasonic X series 1050W Gold

Obviously the thing not turning on from first press is an issue but also I'm certain that all these fans are supposed to be dead silent and not making this dumb noise.

This would be a good time for you to learn about your pc. Disassembly is very easy, as is reassembly. Do a google search on how to build a pc, There are thousands of "how-to's" out there. Newegg has a great set of videos as does Linustechtips, Youtube is a great source.

Watch a few build videos and reverse the process to disassemble yours.

Sounds like a pwm issue, most likely m/b related. If you cannot run your cpu fans from the cpu header, your rig will "think" there is no cooling for the cpu and will not start.

Are you able to "reassign" specific case fan headers as "cpu" in bios?

What type of noise is being made, and are you sure it's not hdd related?

Hey thanks for the reply mark. I don't see any option to "reassign" them like that in the bios. The noise being made is hard to explain but it sounds like it's coming from the center of the fans. I really don't know how to explain the noise and it's not super loud at all but it is loud enough to annoy me when I am just browsing the web and it did not happen originally. I'm going to RMA the motherboard as soon as I find someone who can take the computer apart and put it back together for me as I don't know how to do it. To avoid being left without my computer for two weeks I will do the cross shipment thing with MSI. I'll pay the $99 and they will send me the mobo and refund me the money when they receive the one I have now.

Youtube is your friend! HERE is a quick video of cooler removal - not your board, but the process is the same. Removing the cooler is the most "delicate" part, but just take youetime and be gentle - it's really not that difficult.

All of the other connections/components are easy, just watch the latches on the 24 pin m/b, latches on the ram, and the latch on the gpu. If you're worried about getting the various power and sata cords back properly, use a piece of masking tape on each lead and number them, In your manual, find the m/b layout diagram and number the connection point with the corresponding number on the masking tape.

Mark.

Hello again. I turned on my PC this morning just fine, played for few hours and turned it off. Now I went to turn it on again and it would not turn on. No matter how many times I pressed the power button or different power cords I tried. After I put a screwdriver in the jbat1 then it turned on. I'm really thinking all my problems are because of the mobo right now. Besides the fans making noise when they shouldn't I have another issue now. My Razer Blackwidow Ultimate Stealth keyboard lights up green and I can control the light in the Razer Synapse. I can control the light of the keyboard just fine but for some reason it just won't turn all the way off. Like I can make it as dark or as bright as it can go but I can't turn it completely off. There is also an option to set it to turn off automatically when the screen turns off and I set that on but it doesn't turn off the keyboard light when the screen turns off and when I look at the setting it's set to off again by itself.

Sounds like you have done what you could. It may be that the issue is the m/b. If you do the swap with msi, just be sure you apply driver and bios updates when you install the new m/b. I would also suggest that you do NOT install the 780 until you have all the m/b updates completed - use the onboard graphics and when it's runnig right, then install the gpu.

WoW. I have the same problem with the same PSU for the past couple years. Funnily, it worked after I replaced my old mobo with Maximus Formula IX and some serious updates. But, everything went back to how it was couple days after the hardware upgrade. *Face Palm*
