Hi everyone,

I have had my custom built computer for the past two months and it has been running just fine constantly being put to sleep and hibernation. Just recently, however, I put my PC to sleep to eat dinner (No programs were running at the time) and when I got back the monitor wouldnt respond. I held the power button to restart it and the monitor still didn't respond (nor did the keyboard or mouse; although power is supplied to the entire PC as the fans all work and the mouse and LED's light up).

I have disconnected my SSD and HDD to see if I could at least get the BIOS screen, however I still get no response from the monitor (power is supplied to the whole PC). I also disconnected and reconnected the monitor: it said no signal and turned off again.

I am unsure if this is a windows 8.1 problem (I have seen various problems with sleep and hibernate) or a harware problem. As I said my system is about two months old and been working fine until now.

System:
CPU - Intel Core i5 4690
Motherboard - MSI B85-G43 Gaming Motherboard
Graphics Card - Gigabyte GeForce GTX 770 OC Edition 4GB
Monitor - Acer K242HL 24in LED Widescreen Monitor

--------------------------------------- UPDATE ----------------------------------------------

When the graphics card is removed and the monitor is connected to the onboard graphics there is no signal.

Solution
This isn't a Windows 8 problem.

First things first.
Check your cables. Replace any HDMI/DVI/VGA/DisplayPort cables you are using.
If you have extra slots on your monitor, try a different slot.
Try plugging in a different device to your monitor like a games consoles.

Let me know the results.

I haven't actually used this website before so sorry for the inexperience.

No I did not unplug the hard drive while it was on. I turned it off and then unplugged it before rebooting in attempt to reach the BIOS menu.

Okay thanks. I took out all the cables in my PC case and put them back in. There must have been a lose power cable. It's now working as it was before. I also gave it a good clean.

Thanks for your help.
