I can go to microcenter and get a gtx 980 msi right now, I originally planned to get 2 970 gigabytes or msi's (one a month or so later) (but I can't find any instock anywhere). Do you guys think I should just run and get that msi 980 now and settle or wait out for a 970 (i only game on a 1080, might be a 1440 by the end of the year but big possibility ill just be on 1080)

Why to leave the performance boost you get with SLI, for the same price? I'd wait for them to be back in stock, SLI is 30-50% better than single 980, costs about the same ($50, give or take). Buy in haste, money in waste. Not saying 980 is waste, but SLI 970 throws it out of water, and if you have the resources (SLI capable MoBo and PSU), then, no matter what the resolution, the extra frames are worth it :)

If you want it now, then go for it, theres only about 12% difference between the 970 and 980, and both are arguably overkill for 1080p.
