Afternoon,

I'm relatively ignorant to the ways of building a PC and was looking for any recommendations to alter my build. It'll be mainly used for gaming and I'm trying to keep it ~$1,000 or below. On that note; do NewEgg and Amazon typically offer Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals? If so, I'll probably wait until then to purchase the parts. Below are the parts that I've scrounged up, minus the keyboard/monitor/mouse I already have.

Processor: AMD FX-8320 $149.99 NewEgg
MOBO: Asus M5A97 LE $69.99 NewEgg
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 16GB(2x8GB) 1600MHz $159.99 Amazon
Optical: Asus 24x DVD $19.99 NewEgg
HDD SpinPoint 2TB 5400RPM $85.50 Amazon
PSU: EVGA 80+ Bronze 750W $66.50 NewEgg
Video Card: MSI GTX770 $244.99 NewEgg
Case: CM HAF 912 $59.99 NewEgg
OS: Windows 8.1 64b $92.00 Amazon
Total: ~$950

Any critique for changes in hardware are appreciated. As a footnote, I haven't included a SSD because I have little knowledge on them aside from an increased price and smaller memory for inscreased speed. I'm open to getting another, smaller, HDD for system processes.
Thanks in advance.

650W PSU would be enough in your configuration.
You can also use my case model, which is cheaper.
The AMD R9 280X is also cheaper, you can also go for R9 285 if you care about features more than performance.
Whatever you do, if you only play games, don't buy windows 8.1, its horrible for games!

a quality 600 w psu will perform better

I'd go with a 7200RPM 2TB hard drive for all your games, files that don't need quick access and an SSD to put your Operating System on. I was too a little skeptical if an SSD would really be worth and oh boy was I wrong. An SSD just speeds up everything you do. My operating system never slows and or hangs waiting for my normal HDD.

Really, I use it and never had an issue. I have even seen the odd benchmark where you get an extra fps or two? However I seem to be the minority as I actually like it and find it quicker to navigate even on a desktop.

You could get an Intel CPU, but would have to downgrade to a cheaper GPU to fit your budget

I didn't add an optical drive as I recommend using an external one. You won't really be using it anyway. I personally don't quite like the look of optical drives on cases , especially when their colours don't match.

1) Is the extra 8GB of RAM not worth the extra $90 I planned to spend? I understand any unused memory is a waste, but I was informed that some programs and games can easily reach that 8GB cap.

2) It was mentioned that a decent 600W PSU would be enough. Does that stand with 550W?

3) With the Optical understandibly removed, what's a good SSD option?

Because you play all the new titles, I am also a fan of classics, and those have a tendency to crash... they did that when they were brand new, and something crashing on windows 8.1 is not a good idea. Toggling windows focus can be hell.

I use 8GB of RAM in my PC as well. I play COD , DayZ , BF3, and many other games, and memory has never been a problem.

I'm not an expert in power supplies, but many other more expereinced members in Tomshardware have said that a 500-600 w PSU is all you ever need unless you overclock or use multiple GPUs.
The PSU I slected is non-modular, which means that all the cables are connected to the PSU, even the ones you don't need. So if you can spend a little more, I recommend getting a modular PSU. It would save you a lot of time and effort.

Here's one

I agree with DualShock on the Samsung 840 Evo. I use it too, and my PC boots in 5-8 seconds with Windows 7 installed. Windows 8.1 should be faster. I store 5 of my most played games and all the other drivers on it as well. Downloads and documents all go to my Western digital HDD.
